Hello Everyone!

Last week, we released our first No Man’s Sky update for 2022: SENTINEL. An overhaul and refresh of combat is something we’ve wanted to do for a long time, so it’s very exciting to now be able to share this work! It’s always great to see how our amazing community engages with each update; we’ve loved reading about everyone strategising against the expanded sentinel forces, using the new weapons in creative and interesting ways, as well as unearthing sentinel secrets and constructing robotic companions.

In contrast with this adrenaline-fueled update, today we are happy to announce the start of the more gentle-paced Exobiology expedition, themed around discovering and interacting with the strange and varied alien creatures inhabiting the universe.

 

 

Each Traveller will begin their journey in a lonely star system devoid of wildlife, but with a towering bipedal creature companion to accompany them. Journey across the expedition route to meet majestic diplos, gather eggs and milk, and endeavour to impress Iteration Cronus with your baking skills. Discover new species inhabiting anomalous worlds and ocean depths, befriend and nurture new companions, rendezvous with other players, and much more.

 

 

The Exobiology expedition begins today, and will run for approximately five weeks.

As with previous expeditions, players will start a new save and all begin on the same planet – and will have the opportunity to collect a number of limited edition rewards!

When Exobiology concludes, your progress will be converted to a Normal mode save, and rewards can be redeemed across all save games.

Reality Glitch Jetpack Trail
The jetpack exhaust is fitted with a high-concentrate pugneum dispenser. When the jets are activated, the resulting reaction carves miniature distortions in reality… as well as creating an interesting visual effect.

 

Creature-Themed Posters
Decorate your base with these Abyssal, Solstice and Territories posters – ranging from a gold-framed butterfly evoking the nostalgia of long summer days, to a dark reminder of what lurks in the depths below…

Exotic Companion Armour
Ideal for fierce-tempered companions, this stylish plate armour protects vital organs against laser and projectile fire. Ultra-soft breathable padding reduces the likelihood of companions wriggling out of the accessory.

 

Exotic Wingpack
An elegant wing-assisted jetpack, inspired by the design philosophy of exotic starships.

 

Sentinel Quad Companion
This Sentinel Quad Egg will hatch a tireless quadrupedal robotic companion, reprogrammed to be loyal and safe around Travellers, though ever watchful.

 

Alongside working on new content and features for No Man’s Sky, we will continue to listen to feedback and address important issues reported by the community. We have so much more planned for this year!

Hello everyone,

Thank you to everyone playing the Sentinel Update, especially those taking the time to report any issues they encounter via Zendesk or console crash reporting.

We are listening closely to your feedback, and have identified and resolved a number of issues. These fixes are included in patch 3.82, which will be live on all platforms soon.

 

Bug fixes

  • Sentinel damage levels have been tweaked slightly to provide a more even escalation of danger as players become stronger.
  • Fixed a number of issues with Sentinel navigation in caves and buildings.
  • Fixed an issue that could cause an invisible blocker to prevent access to settlement buildings.
  • Fixed an issue that could result in players being placed outside of the Space Station when quick warping to specific station models.
  • Fixed an issue that caused organic companions to generate partially robotic names.
  • Fixed an issue that caused untranslated text in base part colouration options.
  • Fixed an issue that caused weapons to leave unrepairable terrain impacts within a settlement.
  • Implemented a recovery for players who have ended up with duplicated core technology in their Exosuit inventory.
  • Fixed an issue that caused a duplicate teleporter to appear in the Catalogue.
  • Fixed an issue that prevented building mode crosshairs from appearing when building on a freighter.
  • Fixed an issue that could overwrite Space Anomaly NPC dialog for the Taste of Metal mission, preventing mission progress.
  • Fixed an issue that caused the Taste of Metal to override all mission notifications if the player does not immediately return to their settlement.
  • Added steps to the automated repair and install pinning instructions to assist players who need to locate an additional Radiant Brain.
  • Fixed an issue that prevented Radiant Brains from appearing in the Catalogue.
  • Fixed an issue that caused the Cloaking Device effect to overly darken the screen in VR.
  • Fixed an issue that caused some planetary shops and stations not to offer the same Multi-Tools as before 3.80.
  • Fixed an issue that caused the Expedition Mode Select to display ‘Download Failed’ when the expedition has not yet begun.
  •  

  • Introduced a number of navigation optimisations.
  • Fixed a crash that occurred when warping in someone else’s freighter.
  • Fixed a crash related to repair drones.
  • Fixed a rare crash related to weapon reloading.
  • Fixed a crash related to building on a freighter.
  • Fixed a crash related to calculating starship takeoff costs.

 

We will continue to release patches as issues are identified and resolved. If you experience any issues, let us know by submitting a bug report.

We are listening closely to your feedback, and have identified and resolved a number of issues. These fixes are included in patch 3.81, which will be live on all platforms soon.

 

Bug fixes

  • Fixed an issue that could cause freighter bases to fail to load after warping in a freighter.
  • Fixed an issue that caused an empty copy of the player’s freighter to spawn in a system after warping.
  • Fixed an issue that could prevent building within a player freighter.
  • Fixed an issue that caused inappropriate technologies to occasionally be found in the inventory of newly purchased freighters.
  •  

  • Fixed an issue that could cause all Multi-Tools to become Royal Multi-Tools after reloading a save with a Royal Multi-Tool equipped. Pre-existing Multi-Tools have been completely restored to their correct appearance. Unfortunately, some newly acquired Royal Multi-Tools may have changed appearance.
  • Fixed an issue that changed the Multi-Tools offered in shops and space stations. Weapon caches at the same coordinates will now offer the same tools as before 3.80.
  • Fixed an issue that caused some saved Multi-Tools to change appearance.
  •  

  • Adjusted the autoaim strength of the Blaze Javelin, to make pad aiming behave more consistently.
  • The Blaze Javelin now does a degree of piercing damage to armoured Sentinels, so that damage is done to the drone as well as the armour plating if the plating is destroyed in one shot.
  • Slightly reduced the effect of gravity on Pulse Spitter projectiles.
  • Slightly increased the base damage of the Pulse Spitter.
  •  

  • Adjusted the fire rate of Sentinel drones, so that recently shot drones will attempt to retaliate more aggressively.
  • Sentinel drones now attempt to keep further away from the Minotaur when in combat.
  • Fixed an issue that could cause Sentinels to respawn in a loop while fighting inside a settlement when using PlayStationVR.
  • Fixed a number of issues where Sentinels would fail to spawn around settlements.
  •  

  • Fixed an issue that prevented stun effects from being correctly applied to creatures on derelict freighters.
  • Fixed an issue that prevented stunned creatures from dying.
  • Fixed an issue that caused some stunned entities to briefly enter an invalid navigation state after recovering.
  • Fixed a number of issues with the Cloaking Device third person effects on Xbox and PlayStation platforms.
  • Reduced the movement levels of the reconstructed drone during interactions.
  • Fixed an issue that caused procedurally generated Exosuit shield upgrades to offer extremely high protection against incoming damage, rather than values within the correct range.
  • Fixed an issue that could very rarely cause some technologies to generate without any stats.
  •  

  • Fixed an issue that caused the jetpack to be disabled in Photo Mode.
  • Fixed an issue that prevented the jetpack effects from appearing when using the default backpack.
  • Fixed an issue that caused the jetpack to be visible in first person.
  • Fixed an issue that could cause the transition effects to fail to play when exiting the starship.
  • Fixed an issue that caused a small glowing cube to occasionally slowly float across the Space Station.
  • Fixed an issue that caused the wrong full-screen effect to be applied when using the Analysis Visor.
  •  

  • Fixed an issue that could cause Exosuit-specific shield messages to display while using an Exocraft.
  • Fixed an issue that caused insufficiently specific text to be displayed as a mission notification when interacting with the reconstructed drone.
  • Fixed a number of naming consistency issues with the reconstructed drone.
  • Fixed an issue that could cause a popup with incorrect data to become stuck and block the UI.
  • Fixed a mission text issue.
  •  

  • Introduced a number of memory and performance optimisations to creature and Sentinel navigation.
  • Fixed a crash related to multi-axis rotation of base parts.
  • Fixed a crash related to Steam Input.
  • Fixed a physics-related crash.
  • Fixed a crash related to NPC starships.
  • Fixed a crash related to Sentinel’s guarding buildings.
  • Fixed a crash related to using weapons in multiplayer.

Hello!

We are starting off 2022 as we mean to continue! We are pleased to announce that the first update of the year is available to download for free today. It’s called No Man’s Sky SENTINEL.

 

The Sentinel update brings an overhaul of the combat systems in game and enemies you meet, to create something much more challenging and exciting. No Man’s Sky is a game about exploration, but our universe has always been one filled with hazards and danger. Sentinels police the planets you explore, and have long been an element of the game we want to make more interesting, deep and fun – whilst also allowing players to defeat and overcome them in a more meaningful way.

 

 

Fortunately this update comes with a huge array of combat improvements and enhancements for the battle-scarred Traveller. You have access to new weapons, like the charged energy shotgun, active camo and the new stun grenade. Mechs can now be programmed to protect you in combat.

Sentinels have become more formidable too. They have devised new classes, like Heavies, Summoners, Medics and even an Exo-Mech. Sentinels also deploy new weaponry like the flamethrower and utilise protective shields. And for the brave, the locations of sentinel “nests” have been made known, adding generous rewards for raiding these infested hives.

 

 

With the Sentinel update, players will learn about the lore of how Sentinels came into being. Among the rewards for facing down new sentinel missions is the ability to reprogram and adopt your very own friendly AI drone, as well as salvaging parts to create defenses of your own. There is also a new Expedition launching next week, with a tonne of new rewards.

 

This is a huge update, but here are just some of the additions:

Sentinel Hardframe Mech – Battle against a brand new robotic enemy – the huge, heavily armoured Hardframe mech. Equipped with lasers, terrain-destroying grenades, and a plasma-powered flamethrower, this fearsome new Sentinel launches itself across the battlefield with a high-powered jetpack.

Total Visual Overhaul for Weapons – All Multi-Tool systems, from the Mining Laser to the Scatter Blaster, have received a significant visual overhaul, benefiting from new projectiles and beams, muzzle flashes, lighting effects, refraction, new impacts and more!

 

 

Advanced Combat Upgrades – New upgrades add depth to combat, with the ability to add stun or incineration effects to your existing weapons, or to set up your Multi-Tool to deal extra damage to targets you’ve previously tagged. Or, take advantage of the new Cloaking Device to vanish mid-fight and gain the strategic upper hand.

AI Robotic Companions – Players can reassemble and reprogram their own friendly robotic drone companion, or go one step further and salvage Sentinel Hardframe parts to build their own autonomous AI-powered giant mechanical escort.

New Stories and Missions – Work with the crew of the Space Anomaly on a substantial new story-driven mission, or raid the sinister Sentinel Pillars to access their archives and probe the secrets of the Atlas and the World of Glass…

 

 

Combat Flow and Feel Improvements – A vast list of tweaks and refinements have been made to weapon feel and flow, making for a more dynamic and impactful combat experience.

New Drone Enemies – Regular Sentinel units have been overhauled, with heavy combat and shield drones, dedicated repair drones, and even advanced summoning units joining the existing patrol drones.

Last year saw the No Man’s Sky team releasing a tonne of updates (including Companions, Expeditions, Prisms, Frontiers) and our first expeditions (like Beachhead, Emergence, Pioneers, Cartographers). I don’t doubt that 2022 will be just as productive for our small team.

Hello,

We’re very excited to let people know that No Man’s Sky is coming to the Nintendo Switch this summer.  

I can’t tell you how incredible it feels to play No Man’s Sky on this tiny portable device. It feels both completely natural and also totally improbable at the same time.  

For the last couple of years, a couple of members of our small team have been secretly working on the Nintendo Switch version of No Man’s Sky. It has been a real moonshot. No Man’s Sky is built around procedural generation, which means the console generates everything you see. This makes it so much harder to bring our game to something like the Switch. There have been so many times where we’ve gone home one day convinced it was impossible, only to have someone stride in the next day with a unique technical solution. Honestly I think this team never seems happier than when they are trying to do near-impossible things.  

From UI to controllers to gameplay, we’re taking the time to make this feel completely at home on the device, both on the big screen, but importantly as a portable version of No Man’s Sky. Every time I pick the Switch up and seamlessly jump from planet to planet, from star system to star system, I have to pinch myself that I am playing on the Nintendo Switch, and that I can take it with me wherever I go. There’s so much more we have yet to reveal about the Switch version, and there’ll be more announcements to come as we get closer to release.  

 

Many of our community have Switches as their secondary gaming device and we are pleased to be able to offer them an alternative way to play, either at home docked, or on the move. For the tens of millions of gamers for whom the Nintendo Switch is their only console, we can finally introduce them into our universe and into the welcoming arms of our large and growing community.

The Nintendo Switch release is just one of many exciting developments we have in store for the community in 2022 and we can’t wait to show you what we’ve been working on in the VERY near future. For now though, we hope you are as excited as we all are to welcome No Man’s Sky to its first Nintendo platform.
