Hello everyone,
Thank you to everyone playing the Living Ship Update, especially those taking the time to report any issues they encounter via Zendesk or console crash reporting.
We are listening closely to your feedback, and have identified and resolved a number of gameplay and stability issues. Fixes for these were released on Steam experimental, and this patch, 2.32, is now live on PC and consoles.
Patch Notes
- Fixed an issue that caused Cuboid Roof Caps to snap to the floor, rather than the roof, of Cuboid Rooms.
- Added a chance to find cargo pods at derelict freighter space encounters.
- Fixed an issue that caused extra, incorrect inventory tabs to appear when comparing ships or freighters.
- Fixed an issue that caused frigates not to award cargo.
- Water reflections have been removed in PC VR (matching PS VR) to improve visual quality.
- A toggle has been added to the General Options menu to disable Auto Torch.
- Fixed a number of issues that prevented Atlas words from being learned correctly.
- Slightly reduced the time taken for Living Ship components to mature, so that they do not exceed 24 hours.
- Implemented a recovery fix for players whose Starbirth missions failed to locate an appropriate planet or building at the coordinates steps.
- Fixed an issue which duplicated the default filter in photo mode.
- Fixed an issue that caused pinned instructions involving Atlas Stones to suggest that Atlas Stones could be collected from factories.
- Fixed an issue which affected the portable refiner when picking it up with one too few inventory slots available.
- Fixed an issue that caused too much warp fuel to be consumed when warping in VR.
- Fixed an issue that caused HUD elements to be incorrectly displayed during warp.
- Fixed an issue that caused ships to judder and disappear when landing in multiplayer.
- Fixed an issue that caused players to miss the landing pads when landing at an outpost.
- Expedition holograms now turn green when the expedition is complete.
- Fixed an issue that caused ‘Hostile Ships Defeated’ audio to play when combat frigates arrive to assist in a fight.
- Fixed a rare crash when collecting cargo from a frigate.
- Fixed a rare crash that could occur when streaming in the Space Anomaly.
- Added the ability to use nanites to evolve upgrades that have been installed inside Living Ships.
- Fixed a small visual glitch that could occur when exiting mission dialogue interactions.
- Fixed an issue that allowed re-interaction with a living ship that was flying away.
- Fixed an issue that caused stats to be named incorrectly in the descriptions of upgrade modules.
- Prevented the Starbirth mission from starting in the middle of a multiplayer Nexus mission.
- Fixed a number of minor visual issues with the Living Ship cockpits.
- Fixed a visual issue with the contrails from the Living Ship.
- Fixed an issue that caused shuttle-class starships to change appearance.
- Fixed a rare crash that could occur when handing in a Nexus mission.
- Fixed a crash that could occur when pinning directions for Frost Crystals.
- Fixed a number of small mission flow problems in the directions for various substances.
- Fixed an issue that allowed two living ships to spawn at the same location.
- Fixed an issue that could cause portal warps to fail, resulting in players being returned to their previous system or pushed under the terrain.
We will continue to release patches as issues are identified and resolved. If you experience any issues, let us know by submitting a bug report.

Hello Everyone!
One of our favourite things is watching the Community Research tiers fill up at the Galactic Atlas. We love seeing the community working together to unlocking the latest traveller visage, base part, or jetpack trail.
This past week, we’ve felt especially egg-cited about your progress, and it was lovely to finally reveal what has been growing inside those Void Eggs some of you had been incubating for a few days.
2019 was another huge year for No Man’s Sky. Beyond was our biggest update so far – introducing full VR support, significantly improved multiplayer, and deepening so many other areas of the game. The update welcomed a huge number of new players and veteran travellers alike back to the game.
In November of 2019, we released a quality of life update, Synthesis which, in some respects, was even more significant, especially for the long-term members of the community. It was an update which pulled a lot of the strands of the game and the 7 previous updates together, and we have been thrilled to see record numbers of players coming and playing for longer.
And we still found time to have some fun as evidenced by the music-making Bytebeat update in December. We have really enjoyed hearing your amazing compositions. As ever, you have taken the ball and run with it far, far beyond what we even thought possible.
We hope you are enjoying our first update of 2020, the Living Ship Update, hopefully the first of many. As ever our journey continues.

Weekend Missions
The tremor of another planetary disturbance has reached the Space Anomaly. Nada claims the data has the signature of a tower-like building, rising from a plane of giant fungi.
Despite the ongoing disturbances, a strange calm seems to have fallen upon the Anomaly’s inhabitants. Sign up at the Nexus this weekend to participate in the latest investigation, and speak to Iteration: Gemini before venturing out to hear their perspective on the situation.

The Living Ship’s Void Egg is now available from the Space Anomaly’s Quicksilver Synthesis Bot. Carrying one tucked in your exosuit or starship may draw the gaze of wild living ships…
Progress is now underway to unlock 3 new buildable decorations for your base: the Marine Rock, Mineral Arch, and Gem-Encrusted Rock.

2.31 Patch Notes
- Fixed a rare softlock in the final stage of the Starbirth mission.
- Fixed an issue where players who reloaded after completing the Starbirth mission but before claiming the Living Ship could lose the ship.
- Fixed a rare mission problem where one of the later stages of the Starbirth mission would fail to find an appropriate star system.
- Fixed a series of problems that could occur when trying to begin the Starbirth mission on the other side of a portal.
- Fixed a console-only issue that caused grass colours to change.
- Fixed an issue that could allow players to claim a distress beacon as a starship when seeking a second Living Ship.
- Fixed a number of crashes when loading savegames that had a distress beacon as a starship.
- Fixed a crash related to loading the cockpit space map.

2019 was an important year for No Man’s Sky. It was the year we brought the entire game into VR and much expanded multiplayer in the free BEYOND update. Everyone who owned the game was overnight able to play the entire game in virtual reality and it has been extremely cool to see VR and non-VR players joining up in the Nexus to explore, embark on missions and build bases together.
We followed Beyond with two more content updates last year, SYNTHESIS and BYTEBEAT, and we are starting 2020 as we mean to go on with another free release – the LIVING SHIP update releasing today.
The Living Ship update introduces the first new starship since ATLAS RISES. But this is more than just a ship – these are strange and beautiful creatures with lives of their own. A new series of missions will take players through the ancient Korvax experiments that led to the birth of these interstellar beings. Players who wish to incubate, grow and ultimately fly their own living ship should visit the Space Anomaly and follow the call of the Void Egg…
These beautiful, organic, slightly psychedelic ships are uniquely grown (and as with everything in the No Man’s Sky universe, procedurally-generated). They can’t be upgraded in the same way as a traditional ship: each one is individually hatched, with a unique set of internal organs that determines its abilities. If you want a fast hyperdrive, you’ll need to nurture the right sort of life within your ship…
As much attention has been given to the interior of the ships as the exterior. Living ships house you within strange, organic cockpits, requiring players to fly their ship by grasping vein-covered tendrils. It looks and feels suitably unsettling to fly in VR!
The Living Ship update also brings a host of new discoverables to deep space, adding all-new space encounters to the off-planet experience. Strange new lifeforms and mysterious objects now wait between the planets, bringing more variety and unique experiences to space travel.
You might have noticed that since Beyond launched we’ve been experimenting with something new. We have been releasing regular feature updates every month or so, along with community missions and new content every week.
In previous years we have focused the team around one large update. We’ve been really proud of the work we did on these huge updates like NEXT or Beyond, but something always bothered us… there was normally 8 months or more where we were silent, and the community was left wondering if we would ever update the game again! Meanwhile there were smaller features that were ready earlier, but had to wait until all the other work they were wrapped up in was complete.
Whilst we continue to work on more radical things longer term in the background, in the meantime we are experimenting with releasing content we know the community would enjoy as soon as we’re able.
We are enjoying these more regular updates, and the community seems to appreciate them too. This January had more players on all platforms than any previous year, and the average player enjoys longer and more varied sessions across the board. Hopefully folks will be excited about the surprise of the Living Ship update too.
We hope players enjoy this new update, hopefully the first of many in 2020.

[No-Mans-Sky] Synthesis Patch 2.27 (website)
Hello everyone,
Thank you again to everyone playing Synthesis, especially those taking the time to report any issues they encounter via Zendesk or console crash reporting.
We are listening closely to your feedback, and have identified and resolved a number of gameplay and stability issues. Fixes for these were released on Steam experimental, and this patch, 2.27, is now live on PC and consoles.
Patch Notes
- Fixed a potential softlock with a weekend event mission.
- Fixed a small visual issue with jetpack trails.
- Fixed a number of issues with the Japanese translation of new Quicksilver items.
We will continue to release patches as issues are identified and resolved. If you experience any issues, let us know by submitting a bug report.
